A Walk through the history of meaningful Straight egyptian Mares

The Egyptian issue of Arabian Horse World was always one of my favorites growing up as a kid in our breed. In one magazine, I’d get to see photos of all the greats; Moniet El Nefous, *Bint Maisa El Saghira++, *Ansata Bint Mabrouka, *Nihal++, *Bint Moniet El Nefous, *Ansata Bint Bukra, *Deena, *Bint Mona and the list went on and on. These mares founded dynasties, both here in the US and bred on around the world. Just as interesting were the astute and legendary breeders who imported and nurtured their breeding programs with them, many of these breeders being women, which also ties into the Women of the World. So sit back, and I’ll hopefully be able to impart some interesting historical facts and trivia about these great mare lines to you. And, when possible, the women who bred them on. Fun Fact: Many of the original mares that the Blunts acquired for Crabbet Park were Straight Egyptian. So, thank the Egyptian breeders like Ali Pasha Sherif for Rodania, Dajania, Bint Helwa, Queen of Sheba and Basilisk. Without these Egyptian mares, we’d have a very different breed today!
