Why Arabians?

Date

This past weekend, we welcomed a group of people to the farm; they had minimal experience with horses and even less of the Arabian horse. As breeders, owners, and professionals in the Arabian horse industry, we understand how important it is to expose as many people as possible to these majestic horses. Watching guests’ eyes light up when the horses are turned loose in the presentation arena for the first time is an enriching experience. A great deal of questions and curiosity generally follow it. One commonly asked question is “Why Arabians?” compared to other breeds. Though it may seem like a simple question to answer, it is multi-layered and emotional. Let’s talk a bit about why we love the Arabian horse.

Historical Importance – For thousands of years, the Arabian horse has been bred by mankind and originated in the Arabian Peninsula. As valued members of the Bedouin tribes, they were treasured parts of the families, often being brought to live in the tents with their owners. Their endurance, loyalty, and stamina made them exceptional partners in uncertain times of war. By the 16th century, the Arabian horse had entered Europe, then to the Americas shortly after. Today, you will find Arabian horses treasured by their owners and admired by people from nearly every corner of the globe.

Emotional Connection – As a lover of all horses, it is easy to see each breed’s value. The Arabian horse, however, has a unique way of connecting with humans. They are very in tune with our nervous systems and generally have a strong will to please. They often read and respond to outside energy and intuitively respond. Nothing can turn a bad day good quite like time with an Arabian horse.

Distinctive Appearance – It is clear to all who see the Arabian horse that they have a uniquely feminine look. From the delicate tippy ears to the flagging tail, the Arabian horse embodies a look of refinement and grace. The energy and attitude most carry are captivating, their pride is infectious. However, don’t let their delicate look fool you, the Arabian horse is strong, and was originally known for their hearty ability to survive some of the hottest and roughest terrain in the world.

Versatility – In any aspect of the equine sport, you can find an Arabian horse who has excelled in that field. Whether they are sorting cattle, trotting “above level” in an English class, jumping fences, or crossing the country in endurance rides, the Arabian horse’s versatility is unmatched. Their giant hearts and strong minds make it a pleasure to work alongside them, no matter the discipline.

Arabian horses are not just animals; they are companions that have shared in the human journey for centuries, offering their strength, loyalty, and grace. Whether you’re an experienced equestrian or someone new to the world of horses, the Arabian horse has a unique way of forging a connection that is both profound and lasting. As we continue to share the wonder of the Arabian horse with others, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for these magnificent creatures and the incredible bond they form with humans.
