For over a year before that fateful visit to Palmetto Arabians, Melinda had been looking for a western colt – a western colt who would stay western and stay a colt. “I asked for the help of advisors from the Arabian horse world who knew more than I did about how to make that happen.” And finally it did.
Combining almost 15,000 feet of elevation gain and 21,000 feet of descent, punishing heat, rocks and bogs underfoot, canyons, rivers, and the Sierra Nevada mountain range to cross, the 100-mile Tevis Cup is one of the toughest endurance rides in the world. Riders from all over the globe come to test their horsemanship, partnership, and luck with their mount from the start at Robie Park above Lake Tahoe to the finish line in Auburn, California, in a time limit of 24 hours.
Following the pandemic, changes were necessary to allow the Youth National Show to continue to thrive. Creating a competition that showcases not only the amazing youth riders who have chosen to own Arabian and Half-Arabian horses but also the true family-friendly nature of the Arabian breed was the obvious answer to a variety of problems.
The stalls along the entrance to the main barn house some of the most celebrated horses in the industry, including the likes of Kharismatic PGA+//, Khash PGA+, Khredential+, Bentayga+, Khohinoor MW+, and LA Trigger Happy+//. Peering into their stalls, one can’t help but feel like they’re in the presence of greatness.
Almost 100 horses participated in this year’s Arabian Horse Days in Janów, excluding the breeding parades. What many don’t realize is that the event is not a monolith; on the contrary, it comprises of the Sports Championship, the Polish Nationals, two auctions and two breeding parades – that’s why we need as many as five days to really feast our eyes with the crème de la crème of Polish Arabians. While many things have changed since 2016, what remains unaffected is the quality of Polish horses.
