The Breeding and Show Department serves as Al Shaqab’s cornerstone. In just 20 short years of its existence, it has been a pivotal farm in the preservation and refinement of the Arabian breed. His Highness, The Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani founded Al Shaqab in 1992 to preserve and further develop the Arabian horse in Qatar. Al Shaqab is led by H E Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Al Shaqab Breeding and Show Department is headed by Manager, Sh Hamad Bin Ali Al Thani who was the mastermind behind the breeding of the three most important stallions in the last three decades:
World Champion Stallions - Al Adeed Al Shaqab, Gazal Al Shaqab and Marwan Al Shaqab - The breeding of this stallions has brought new chapters to Arabian breeding and show ring success as they have helped preserve the breed type and bring new excitement to the sport. Their achievements define Qatar’s heritage of Arabian excellence and have created a legacy for the breed throughout the world.
Although these three stallions fulfill different roles, they team to provide the future for Al Shaqab. Al Adeed Al Shaqab is acclaimed as the world’s leading straight Egyptian sire; Gazal Al Shaqab’s is renowned as the sire of Marwan Al Shaqab and multiple world champion offspring; and Marwan Al Shaqab is legendary as the only three-time World Champion and continues to be annually one of the leading sires of champions in the breed. Marwan Al Shaqab was recently named as the Leading Sire for the 4th year in a row at the 2010 World Arabian Horse Show Championships in Paris, France. Also at the show, Al Shaqab was recognized as having the second-highest amount of World Champion title winning horses in the past 30 years.
Al Shaqab was proud to have bred also World Champion Stallion Fadi Al Shaqab, whos son Falah is now succeding in the US and European show circuit. But not only Fadi has become a cornerstone in the Al Shaqab breeding program, his stablemate Kahil al Shaqab was also World Champion Stallion while his sons and daughters are achieving international success.
Al Shaqab breeding program has also obtained unequaled success in the US achieving National Champions such as Hariry Al Shaqab who was later crowned World Champion Stallion. adding to the U.S. Reserve National Championship Mare of Negma Al Shaqab
In 2004, Al Shaqab proudly became a member of Qatar Foundation with the vision to promote the highest standards in the breeding and showing of Arabian horses and serve as a community resource with innovative, educational and competitive opportunities in all of the equestrian arts.
