While few settings are more beautiful than California’s Santa Ynez Valley, Antheia Arabians takes the term “heavenly oasis” to a whole new realm.
It was a warm and sunny four days in Scottsdale, Arizona for the 2023 World Cup. All lovers of the Arabian horse gathered around the lush green polo field of West World to view the contenders for the show, and without fail each class left the crowd in awe of this beautiful breed.
I have been working on the Scottsdale show since 1980, and I believe that 2023 was our best year ever. The staff headed by Taryl O’Shea worked efficiently; a dream team. The weather mostly cooperated and just over 300,000 spectators enjoyed six arenas with competition in every discipline.
Jeff and Roxanne Schall judged the International and Scottsdale Signature Stallion Half-Arabian Mares and Geldings, respectively. We think they probably speak for all the judges when they say, “Judging the 2023 Scottsdale Show gave us the feeling that we are now and forever a part of the illustrious history of this event.”
Our lives are ruled at the moment by mare’s ovaries. It’s that simple. Considerations of follicle size, number, rate of growth, time of ovulation far outweigh mundane things such eating or sleeping. We are glued to the ultrasound screens all morning — measuring follicles, analyzing their shape, size, and consistency.
Take a walk down memory lane with this look back at Scottsdale 1974 – 1990, which appeared in Arabian Horse World Magazine Volume 30, Issue 5, February 1990.
